Here you will find a summary and recap of all the events and accomplishments that have taken place this year.

Marching Festival Show
This year's marching festival show was once again created and designed by Keith Ledet.  The music for this year's show is a mix of beautiful flowing melodies interspersed between aggressive pieces with heavy percussion.  The theme for this year's marching show is The Jungle.  The drill features a wide variety of movements and designs which will display the versatility of the color guard and every facet of the Cardinal Vanguard.  The musical selections were taken from movies which include Congo, Amistad and Tarzan.  This year's show will be exciting, colorful and full of musical brilliance.

Band Camp
The Cardinal Vanguard travelled to Hammond, Louisiana on July 30, 2000 and attended band camp on the campus of Southeastern University.  The first day proved that the weather would be a factor when it rained Sunday evening forcing the band to practice in the parking lot.  The band was able to get on the field Monday morning and finished the morning rehearsal just in time to beat the rain.  Even though it rained all Monday afternoon, the band was still able to march for the entire evening rehearsal.
The Vanguard was able to use Strawberry Stadium for all of the marching rehearsals. This allowed the band to be able to march in the evening when it was cooler.  The rain held off for the rest of the week which allowed the band to accomplish a great deal.  Most of the drill and music were learned and everyone worked very hard.  The annual talent show was a huge success and was a testament to the amount of talent that there is in the Cardinal Vanguard.  The Vanguard returned home on August 3, 2000.  Band Camp was a great beginning to the year!!

The Cardinal Vanguard participated in the District VII Marching Festival at the John L. Guidry Stadium on the Nicholls State University Campus. The Cardinal Vanguard performed an outstanding show and received superior ratings in auxiliary, percussion, drum major and overall band.

November 4, 2000
Louisiana Showcase of Bands

The Louisiana Showcase of Bands is the most prestigious marching festival in the state of Louisiana with 30 high schools bands participating from all different parts of the state. The Cardinal Vanguard concluded the marching season with their best performance. For that reason, the Vanguard received superior ratings in auxiliary, percussion, drum major and band. The auxiliary received 2nd place in the AAAA/Open class. The Cardinal Vanguard placed 5th overall for the entire competition. This is truly an outstanding result and a great ending to the marching season.

Concert Festivals

March 28, 2001
District VII Concert Festival

The Cardinal Vanguard participated in the District VII Concert Festival at Nicholls State University.  The Cardinal Vanguard received a Sweepstakes trophy by obtaining superior ratings in both performance and sightreading.  These ratings qualify the Vanguard for the state festival at the beginning of May.

May 2, 2001
LMEA State Concert Festival

The Cardinal Vanguard traveled to Lake Charles to participate in the Louisiana Music Educators Association State Concert Festival.  The band performed at a high level and were awarded with superior ratings on stage and in sightreading.  This earned the Vanguard a coveted Sweepstakes trophy.  They were only 1 of 2 bands to in their class to earn this distinction.

Football Games

September 1, 2000
E.D. White vs. Vandebilt

The Vanguard travelled to Houma for the first football game of the year and the Vanguard's first performance.  It would prove to be a very memorable night.  The band arrived in the stands just as the game was about to start when we discovered that the game would be delayed an hour because there were no referees. The bands decided to entertain the audience by performing their marching shows before the game.   The Vanguard performed very well for their first performance of the year.  When we arrived back in the stands, there were very bad storms in the area, so the Vanguard wisely packed up and headed home.  All in all, it was a fun but short trip.

September 15, 2000
E.D. White vs. Assumption

The Vanguard's second performance of the year was at the E.D. White vs. Assumption football game on Friday, September 15, 2000.  The length of the performance increased as the Vanguard added two more numbers to the show performing all the way through The Chase.  The Assumption High School band also performed, and the crowd was entertained as both bands played songs in the stands throughout the game.

October 20, 2000
E.D. White vs. St. James

Because of the weather this year, especially on Fridays, the Cardinal Vanguard performed their entire show for the first time in uniform. The show was performed very well and the audience was attentive and enjoyed every minute of it.  I think that this performance may turn out to be the turning point in the marching season.

November 3, 2000
E.D. White vs. St. Charles

The final regular season game of the year was Homecoming. Because of the homecoming festivities at half-time, the Vanguard performed their festival show after the game, and many people stayed to watch. The Vanguard did not disappoint them by performing their best performance to date.

November 10, 2000
E.D. White vs. Loranger

E.D. White was fortunate enough to host the first playoff game.  This gave the Cardinal Vanguard another opportunity to perform The Jungle.  The weather was a little cool which provided a great venue to perform the show, and as usual, the Vanguard pulled off a great performance.  The Loranger band performed after the game as the Vanguard and a number of spectators viewed the performance.

November 17, 2000
E.D. White vs. Breaux Bridge

The Cardinal Vanguard braved the rain and cold weather to travel to Breaux Bridge, Louisiana for the playoff game.  Because of the inclement weather, a pep band provided spirit and noise to help the football team to a near upset.
